As I celebrate Epiphany today, I am directed to the words of my Savior that I am the light in the darkness of this world. Matthew 5:14
Christ is the Light! Through faith in my Savior, His light empowers and shines through me so that by His Spirit I become a light bearer. WOW! Me? The poor sinner I am ever becoming a light to others in the darkness of this world is beyond my grasp. What an epiphany! I marvel at the transforming power of God’s forgiveness to effectively use me to bring light and hope to another.
May we remember God’s directive to us who have received the light of Christ in faith. Galatians 6:10; “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
I say that the light shines the brightest in someone’s dark setting when a believer shows up. Too often when we encounter someone’s dark journey we back away, as though we are saying, “Get your act together so I can help you.” But that is hardly what God said to us. God spoke His love and forgiveness into our lives while we were sinners, helpless to do anything good. His love is what enabled us to rise out of darkness and to walk in newness of life. So Christ says to each of us, “AS I have loved you, so love one another.” John 13:34
May we who believe in the Savior shine brighter in 2023 than we have ever shone before! In the opportunities provided by the darkness, may we show up in the transforming light of the Gospel.
